Pharmacy & SOS Médecins guide

Pharmacies in France close on Sundays and public holidays except for "pharmacie de garde" — a rotating on-call service. SOS Médecins is a visiting-doctor service for evening/weekend/holiday. Knowing both systems saves you a 90-minute taxi to the hospital emergency.

What's your situation?

What this tool actually solves

The pharmacie de garde is the most-missed French health service. Outside business hours and on Sundays, a handful of pharmacies in your commune stay open on rotation. The location is posted on the door of every closed pharmacy, the Mairie website, and 3237 (Pharma-Garde phone line).

How to read the result

Each result gives: what type of service (pharmacy de garde / SOS / 15 SAMU), how to find it, what to bring, and what to expect.

Limitations

The pharmacie de garde schedule changes every Sunday; check on the door of any closed pharmacy. SOS Médecins has a coverage area of ~50 km from Paris, less elsewhere.

FAQ

Does SOS Médecins speak English?
Mostly yes — it's the standard weekend/evening visiting-doctor service. In Paris most SOS Médecins are multilingual. In smaller cities, the doctor may speak only French.
Can I buy common drugs like aspirin in France?
Most over-the-counter drugs in France require pharmacy staff supervision. Paracetamol (Doliprane) is widely available; ibuprofen (Advil) requires pharmacist approval; aspirin (Aspirine) is available but requires a check at the counter.
